WITH ITAC FOR FSMA FOOD SAFETY TRAINING
As of SEPTEMBER 2017 applicable businesses that process, pack, hold or manufacture human food will be required to have food safety plans outlined and supervised by qualified staff.
The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), requires that food safety plans must be developed and overseen by a “Preventive Controls Qualified Individual” (PCQI). This Fall we are coordinating with the nonprofit industrial consulting organization ITAC in a FDA-recognized 2.5-day workshop aimed at the City-wide food industry that complies with the federal qualification requirements for a PCQI.
This is a FDA-recognized standardized training curriculum, developed by the FSPCA, that complies with the qualification requirements for “Preventive Controls Qualified Individual” as defined in the new 21 CFR, 117.3
Learn how to develop a compliant food safety plan according to the “Preventive Controls Rule for Human Food”, which includes:
• Hazard analysis
• Preventive controls
• Corrective actions and corrections
• Verification and validation
• Record keeping
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
• QA Directors and Managers
• QA Supervisors
• Operations Managers
• GFSI Practitioners
• Individuals responsible for food safety plans
• FDA investigators
After successfully completing this course, participants will receive a certificate signed by the AFDO (Association of Food and Drug Officials), which they can present during FDA inspections to prove competency.
Martin Ziegler, lead instructor for FSPCA Preventive Controls for Human Food, Lead Auditor for ISO/FSSC 22000, BRC, IFS and HACCP, and International Hygiene Trainer will be conducting all three sessions.
DATES: September 25, October 4 & October 11, 2017 (2 full days, 1 half day)
LOCATION: ITAC - 83 Maiden Lane, 2nd Floor; New York, NY 10038
Cost: $950/participant for all 3 sessions, and this includes the official FSPCA training materials and certificate fees. Subsidies may be available for eligible companies.
In the Spring of 2018 we hope to bring the FSMA training program directly to the South Bronx for our Hunts Point & Port Morris businesses ... stay tuned!

The New York State Department of Transpotation is proposing to build new ramps in our community as part of the Sheridan/Bruckner re-design. Come to the scoping meeting on September 18th to learn about the project and give your input.
· Create a new family-friendly Sheridan Boulevard by changing the Expressway from an interstate into a landscaped boulevard and install three signal crossings to provide residents with direct, safe access to the Bronx waterfront and Starlight Park. A new pedestrian bridge over the Bronx River will connect the two sides of the Park to enhance walking, bicycling and recreation.
· Eliminate the bottleneck at the Bruckner-Sheridan Interchange and improve vehicle access to Hunts Point by adding a third lane to the Bruckner Expressway and relocating the Sheridan ramps. The proposed project has two alternative solutions - a new elevated connection between Sheridan/Bruckner and Edgewater Road on the eastern edge of the Point or a new elevated connection between the Bruckner and Oak Point Avenue on the western edge of the Point.
Enforcement of NYC Business Recycling Rules Begins August 1, 2017
The New York City Department of Sanitation will begin enforcing business recycling rules that went into effect last year. The rules cover all commercial establishments, and others, that have their garbage and recycling collected by private carters. All businesses must recycle metal, glass, plastic, beverage cartons and paper. Some must also recycle textiles and organic material.
